YP&SS - IEEE/GRSS-Young Professionals & 16th ISPRS Working Group V/5 and Student Consortium Summer School 2017 (02/10 a 06/10/2017) is a joint event organized by Brazilian Universities with support and funding from two scientific societies IEEE - Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS) and the ISPRS - International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing.
These events are traditionally held by those organizations in several countries around the world. It took place for the first time in Curitiba-PR, Brazil in 2015. In 2016, the YP&SS took place at UNESP/FCT - Campus of Presidente Prudente-SP. This Year, this event will take place at CAV/UDESC located in the city of Lages-SC.
Due to the great advances in the technology of Laser profiling and the integration of multiple remote sensing data sources, many applications are being developed and have attracted great interest in scientific and professional communities. The objective of this event is to show the technical and professional possibilities of these new technologies to provide information to both forever young professionals and researchers in the direction of their careers. Also, emphasis will be given to both LiDAR profiling and signal/image processing using Google Earth Engine.
The event will be organized in two blocks. The first block, lasting three days, will follow the model of the ISPRS Summer School, aiming to transmit technical/scientific knowledge on the selected topic. In this block, presentations will be performed by renowned speakers with great technical and scientific experience in this field from Brazil and abroad. Our Key-note speaker is the Prof. Dr. Norbert Pfeifer (Technische Universität Wien, Austria) who is well-known expert on LiDAR and photogrammetry. Additionally, Prof. Dr. Anselmo Chaves Neto from the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR) will deliver talks on Multivariate Statistics applied to pattern recognition and automation.
The second, lasting two days, follows the model of IEEE/GRSS Young Professionals. This event intends to guide the careers of forever Young Professionals who have been graduated up to 10 years. The event consists of lectures as well as interactive sessions delivered and moderated by prominent professionals active in business, education/research institutions and academia. At the moment, our Key-note Speaker is Prof. Héctor Jaime Hernández Palma (Universidad de Chile, Chile) who is a well-known scientist in the field of LiDAR and digital image processing using Google Earth Engine.
The event is intended for top-level professionals, students of related courses and graduate students. We will offer these two blocks as a Special Topic of the PPGEF - Programa de Pós-Graduação em Engenharia Florestal (Graduate programm of Forest Engineering), and students with sufficiency will be entitled to three (3) ETCS credits, awarded by the PPGEF.
Students living and studying outside of Lages can apply for financial assistance to attend the event. The specific rules are posted already on this page. Thank you for your interest and hope to see you soon in Lages!
